Robin Bartholick

“The response I get from the public is the most rewarding of all. I want all people to be able to view and touch my work.” - Robin Bartholick

Born to a nationally known architect father and a mother who was a leading potter, Robin Bartholick is a talented commercial photographer and deaf artist, who lives and works in Bellingham, Washington.

His childhood encounter with the silent films such as Charlie Chaplin, Laurel & Hardy, Marx Brothers and Buster Keaton, played a key role to form Barthilick’s creative impulse. These films were mastered to communicate visually and, since he could not hear, these films were perfect medium to engage him, enhancing creative side of his brain. Many of these films were subconsciously embedded into his mind.

Later, he attended New York's Rochester Institute of Technology and was honored as an outstanding photographic talent. He was always interested in fine art but practiced commercial art to earn his livelihood. After 20 years of experimenting, he seems to have found a balance with his black and white vintage images that could be appreciated both in the commercial and fine art field.

He spends hours on concepts and sketching, and then uses photography and digital imaging to create his out of the world images. He works on them like a painter, dealing with the proper perspective, getting the right lighting, which sometimes requires several days to complete. One of the hardest achievements in his works is seamlessly matched lighting for all the various elements. The artist’s passion and emotional intensity are also evident in his photographic works such as ‘One Man Show’, ‘Delicate Force’, ‘Above and Beyond’, ‘The Maze’, and ‘Brainstorm’ amongst many others.

By using ever evolving technology and methods such as digital manipulation, Bartholick turns three-dimensional reality into two-dimensional artworks where photographs are transformed into elaborately reworked, surreal images. These astonishing art works are as re-structures, layered, fragmented and monochrome, as complex as the thought process that forms their source.

Bartholick’s photography includes people, still-life, advertising, corporate, large sets and digital imaging. He has been a successful international photographer for the last twenty-three years, serving clients such as Microsoft, Nintendo, Infiniti, Boeing, Airborne Express, Intel, American Airlines, Adobe software, Hewlett Packard, Seattle Symphony, Seattle Opera, PowerAde, Pepsi, Porsche, Ford Motors, Hitachi and Starbucks.
